The marine market may still be navigating economic headwinds, but we're beginning to see encouraging signs that buyer confidence is returning. Over the past month, Jupiter Marine Sales has experienced a noticeable increase in inquiries, boat showings, and serious buyers compared to the previous three months. While the market hasn't fully returned to peak activity, the momentum is certainly moving in the right direction.
This week alone, our team celebrated two significant milestones.
First, we placed a 2022 Formula 380 Super Sport Crossover (SSC) under contract and successfully completed the marine survey, moving one step closer to another successful closing.
We also secured an accepted offer on this beautiful 2015 Jupiter 26 FS, a meticulously maintained center console powered by twin Yamaha outboards that were recently serviced by S & S Marine Services. According to the servicing mechanic, both engines are in excellent condition and the boat is completely turnkey for its next owner.
These transactions are a reflection of what we're seeing across the marketplace—well-maintained, properly priced boats continue to attract serious buyers.
The recreational boating industry remains in a period of normalization after the unprecedented demand experienced during the pandemic. According to the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA), new powerboat sales have softened over the past year as elevated interest rates, inflation, and cautious consumer spending have affected discretionary purchases. On a rolling 12-month basis through April 2026, new powerboat retail sales were down approximately 7.1% year over year.
However, that's only part of the story.
At the brokerage level, particularly in Florida, quality inventory continues to move. Buyers are becoming more selective, but they remain active. Rather than making impulse purchases, today's buyers are spending more time researching, comparing boats, arranging financing, and scheduling surveys before committing.
In other words, boats are still selling—but pricing, presentation, and marketing matter more than ever.
One factor we're watching closely is fuel pricing.
Higher fuel costs have encouraged many boaters to stay closer to home, make shorter trips, or delay upgrading to larger vessels. Industry reports show that while boating participation remains strong, fuel prices have become an increasingly important consideration for both current owners and prospective buyers.
As fuel prices stabilize, we believe buyer confidence could improve further, particularly for larger offshore center consoles, express cruisers, and sportfish models.
One trend we've noticed is that unrealistic asking prices often result in boats sitting on the market far longer than necessary.
Today's buyers have access to more market data than ever before. Comparable sales, pricing tools, and nationwide inventory allow them to quickly recognize value. Boats that are professionally marketed and competitively priced continue to generate the strongest activity.
We're optimistic about the second half of the season.
Interest rates remain a challenge, but we're seeing more buyers scheduling appointments, requesting surveys, and submitting offers than we were just a few months ago. Consumer confidence has shown modest improvement, and many buyers who delayed purchasing earlier this year are beginning to re-enter the market.
If fuel prices continue to stabilize and financing conditions improve, we believe the brokerage market could experience a stronger late-summer and fall selling season.
If you've been considering selling your boat, now is an excellent time to prepare. Professional photography, strategic pricing, and maximum online exposure can make all the difference in today's market.
